Modalities of Acupuncture
Japanese acupuncture, Chinese Acupuncture, and French Acupuncture all have one thing in common - Acupuncture. Each acupuncturist has an individual style and method based on their acupuncture career.
Dr. David McNiff has been under the watchful eye of Dr. Miki Shima (www.mikishima.com) for over two years. After attending one of his seminars in Portland, Ore, David adapted some of Dr. Shima's styles to his treatments.
What to Expect from Acupuncture
Japanese Acupuncture is special in that the techniques used are to primarily find the underlying imbalances in the body's ecosystem and to bring it back into balance. Once the internal homeostasis is flowing in the right direction, imbalance (illness) becomes eliminated. Many of the toxins in the body have different origins - whether mental, physical, or emotional, Japanese acupuncture can help the patient understand where more attention should be paid to ensure greater comfort and more efficient healing.
Whether seeking acupuncture help for minor everyday concerns or deeper ailments, acupuncture can be utilized daily, monthly, or as in the ancient times, seasonally. Acupuncture and herbal medicine were initially created as a preventative medicine, adjusting the body according to the seasons to prevent illness. By understanding the mechanisms which are causing disease, patients gain a better understanding of self. Isn't that what we are all looking for?
Treatment Style
Dr. McNiff uses a Japanese style of acupuncture and needling. To the inexperienced patient, this may be meaningless however, to the experienced patient, this is an important fact. Japanese acupuncture generally uses different point combinations, gold and silver needles and cupping or moxabustion.
