Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a compression technique that involves the application of pressure to specific points on either the hands or the feet. It is based on the principle that there are reflex areas on the hands and feet which correspond to the organs, glands, and systems of the body.

During a reflexology session, the client relaxes on a massage table while the practitioner works with the client's hands or feet. The client removes shoes and stockings but is otherwise fully clothed and covered in warm blankets. The session takes approximately one hour.

General Benefits of Reflexology
  • Relaxation: allows the body to release stressÑa proven underlying cause of "dis-eases" such as depression, cancer, and heart disease
  • Promotes circulationÑbrings oxygen to cells
  • Improves elimination of toxins and assimilation of nutrients by cells
  • Foot reflexology relieves tension and supports balanced function for those who work "on their feet" or are involved in athletic activities such as running, walking, or team sports
  • Hand reflexology relieves tension for those who do repetitive activities such as typing or playing an instrument
  • Many people experience increased energy levels after a session
Research: Specific Benefits

Studies show that regular reflexology can:
  • Reduce the incidence of chronic headaches
  • Relieve pain
  • Relieve chronic constipation
  • Help to relieve PMS & regulate menstruation
  • Ease labor pain during childbirth
  • Reduce nausea and anxiety, and improve quality of life for those coping with cancer
  • Help to improve self-esteem, confidence, motivation & concentration in people experiencing a need for emotional support
